Harley is an 8-year-old boy living with autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), experiencing severe learning challenges and non-verbal communication. When Leaf Complex Care became the support provider, we immediately designed a tailored support plan to empower Harley and his mother, offering much-needed care and support.
Reflecting on the Past: The Story of Harley
Harley’s journey began at the age of 2 ½ when he started experiencing autism and severe learning difficulties. As he grew older, additional challenges emerged, including ADHD and non-verbal communication. The tangible bond between Harley and his mother highlights the depth of their connection, who was experiencing a crisis point and in need of urgent support.
Facing the Challenges
Harley’s mother expressed her deep concerns during the initial meeting. She had been waiting for support, facing a prolonged period of uncertainty. Leaf Complex Care was best placed acknowledging the strain on Harley’s mother and the impact it had on both their lives.

How Meeting Our Support Workers Changed Everything
Leaf Complex Care approached Harley’s case with intentionality and profound care. Recognising the need for tailored support, Harley required 2:1 support, followed by a highly experienced staff, introducing our support worker Anold. The team introduced one clinician at a time during initial visits to ensure a smooth transition and avoid overwhelming Harley and his mother.

This gradual approach allowed Harley’s mother to gain confidence in the team and provided Harley with a sense of familiarity and security.
Anold continues – ‘’Being in the community for social activities with HMG has given mom time to carry out other chores, shopping, attending family gatherings, and, more importantly, time for her well-being.’’
