The IWD 2023 voice calls for embracing equity and creating an inclusive world for everyone around the globe. Each of us can make a difference by embracing equity in our words, actions and interactions. Gender diversity and equality should be at the core of every community, company and society.

Together, we can provide active support to empower women to use their voices, skills, and talents and create an IMPACT in society.

Empowering Women in the Digital Age

Digital technology today empowers women worldwide to work together, support each other in achieving great careers and constantly enhance their knowledge. Digitalisation offers unprecedented opportunities for gender equality and the inclusion of women in the digital world.

From education to employment and running a business, being a woman in the tech world entails a wealth of opportunities.

With that said, women in tech face many challenges due to gender injustice. Women often face prejudice and experience imposter syndrome. Statistics show that even in 2023, women are still underrepresented in the digital and tech spheres.

The world’s experts in finance and economics highlight the importance of gender equality in business success. Reports show that a diverse workforce creates an all-encompassing approach to inventing new products and ideas, resulting in overall company success.

#EmbraceEquity

The voice for International Women’s Day this year is to #EmbraceEquity.

At Catalyst Care Group, we believe in embracing equity. We believe the world becomes a kinder, fairer place for all when everyone implements a practice of equity.

While equality and equity have similar aims, they are different concepts.

  • Equality – every group, or individual, is granted the same opportunities and resources
  • Equity – each person is different, with unique circumstances, to achieve an equal outcome, resources and opportunities must be precisely allocated

Equity is part of our process at Catalyst Care Group. We treat everyone as an individual, understanding that people have unique needs and preferences. In achieving equality, equity must be implemented.

It is so lovely and important to have a day to celebrate the achievements of women. Let's recognise the significance of women in our lives and on society and inspire them for greater future achievements. As woman contribute equally to the home, society, and nation. Everyone, everywhere can play a part in helping forge gender equality - There's no place for complacency.

Robyn Gunningham-Collett, Team Leader at Catalyst Care Group.

As part of this year’s theme, we invite our team to support the campaign by breaking discrimination and embracing equity and diversity.

DigitALL: Women, Technology and Gender Equality

Digital technology and innovations are the leading force of change and impact. It affects economies, employment, communications, and every aspect of our life.

Let’s look at the facts about digital technology:

  • About 90% of employment tasks around the globe require digital skills
  • About 40% of people worldwide do not have internet access (and this is primarily women from developing countries)
  • About 29% of the world’s STEM workforce consists of women

Access to digital technology is essential. Women continuously face marginalisation. Most people worldwide who do not have access to technology are women – and women only make up 29% of the STEM workforce.

We must work together, embrace our power of kindness and compassion, and fight for gender and technology equality for every woman worldwide.

The Power of Women and Digital Technology

Digital technology can provide women, all across the world, with fantastic resources and skills.

By working together, women can rightfully benefit from the following:

  • Digital technology can help girls and women access education, employment and self-development in the tech domain
  • Digital innovations empower women to take charge of their finances, utilise mobile banking, and access online healthcare support
  • Digital innovations resulted in most companies using the remote and hybrid workplace models, enabling women to manage their life-work balance successfully
  • Digital technology, like Microsoft Teams and Zoom, helps women work, learn and grow together, creating solid bonds that drive unique results
  • Digital technology can provide women with a voice, helping them become active voices of change

Empowering women to use digital technology opens the door to countless innovative ideas – not just for women, but entire teams, companies and communities.

Embracing equality and gender diversity is critical for developing society and global economic growth. Only by working together can we make our dreams in life come true.

Joined minds and forces can create value, impact, and CHANGE in the world.

Women Who Changed the Tech World

Women invented many of the world’s most significant breakthroughs.

Living in the digital era, we have several women to thank for the science and technology inventions that changed the world.

Women can lead a brand-new approach and provide different perspectives to overcome challenges with unique problem-solving strategies and solutions.

Below is a list of incredible women who act as voices of change within the tech world:

  • Ada Lovelace– Invented the first written computer program in the world
  • Hedy Lamarr– Contributed to the invention of Wi-fi, Bluetooth and GPS
  • Grace Hopper– Contributed to developing one of the first high-level programming languages
  • Maria Telkes– Invented the first solar-heated system
  • Katherine Johnson – Contributed to sending apollo to the moon
  • Evelyn Berezin– Designed the first computer word processor and one of the first computerised airline reservations system
  • Rachel Zimmerman– Invented the “Blissymbol Printer” for people with speech challenges to communicate by using a trackpad that translates symbols into words
  • Ann Tsukamoto– Contributed to saving thousands of lives with human stem cells studies and blood marrow transplantations

Empowering women in the digital age and embracing gender equality can contribute to innovations and breakthroughs.

For me, women's equity is extremely important as there once was a time where women were noticed for cooking, cleaning and being mothers whilst men worked. I believe women have came an extremely long way since this, having the equality to vote and hold the same careers as men, some of our greatest achievements have been accomplished by women, such as Katherine Johnson who helped NASA send apollo to the moon. These accomplishments you rarely hear of due to society and concerns around women empowerment, however I say if you have done it SHOUT IT! It is something all of us women should be proud of and our ancestors who fought for equity back many many years ago.

Bethany Kendall, Senior Care Coordinator at Catalyst Care Group.

Equality, equity, and inclusion give us equal opportunities to fulfil our aspirations and push the boundaries to achieve life-changing success.
