Meet Sarah – Operations Manager for Leaf Complex Care
Mum to three, Sarah has lived experience of both moderate learning disabilities and complex needs, as well as high functioning autism and dyspraxia. Sarah has helped her eldest stepson Adam move into supported living and has become his relevant person’s representative (RPR). As an RPR, Sarah supports Adam who is deprived of his liberty under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCA DOLS) to ensure his rights are protected.
“Being a parent carer to my stepson who has complex care needs is a huge motivator for me. I understand first-hand the challenges families face and how hard it can be for parents to get the services they need”
After a number of years providing administrative support to range of businesses Sarah trained as a St John Ambulance volunteer – which ignited her passion for helping others and watching them develop. Whilst at St John Ambulance Sarah won Youth Leader of the Year 2014 and was invited to meet the Queen in 2016 for her services to youth.
Since then Sarah has worked for Time2Share a charity that supports children with disabilities and Contact A Family – another local charity that supports the families of children with disabilities. She has also worked Healthwatch Bristol and Healthwatch England – national and regional independent champions for people who use health and social care services.
Prior to working with Leaf, Sarah worked for a large provider of healthcare services as a Complex Care Manager supporting people with a range of complex care needs across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset.
“I want to help people with complex care needs and their families to access the care and support they’re entitled to. I’m passionate about delivering the highest quality of care, keeping people in their own home and active in their communities – and reducing inequalities in health and social care”
Sarah was born and brought up in Cornwall, lived in Cheltenham and Gloucestershire for several years and has lived in Bristol since 2006.
She enjoys spending time with her husband, grown-up children and little grandson. Sarah also enjoys going out with friends, theatre, cinema, live music and travelling.
